Many people don’t think about their gutters and having them cleaned until they notice during a heavy rainfall they have a waterfall in front of the door. By then it’s too late.
Gutters should be inspected and cleaned regularly to allow them to function as intended to protect your home. Gutters do more than just make your home look nice. Their main function is to catch water running off the roof and direct it away from the foundation of our homes.
If the gutters become clogged, water cannot flow through them, backing up and over the lip of the gutter making the aforementioned waterfalls along the outside of our homes. The waterfalls then drench the foundation providing a perfect access point for subterranean termites to access your home.
When leaves and other debris is left to sit in the gutters, it rots the gutter, provides and environment that allows seeds to germinate and in the previous waterfall scenario, can damage fascia boards. Water can back up from the gutters to the inside of a home causing interior damage and wood rot.
Annual gutter cleaning is well worth the small amount of money as a preventative measure to more far reaching and expensive damages.
